B-BBEE with 51% black ownership. We specialise in geotechnical-, air percussion- , symmetrics- and auger drilling, making us your drilling contractor of choice.
All at URD continue to strive delivering excellent service to our clients safely. We are proud to announce that we have had ZERO incidents over the years since 2014 and will continue
to adhere to safety regulations to keep our incident record zero rated.
Delivering quality boreholes is a top priority, therefore we upgraded our one Thor 5000 air percussion drill rig with two Thor 8000 air percussion drill rigs.
This ensures that quality boreholes such as production water-, environmental monitoring-, de-watering-, rescue bay- and sampling boreholes, can be done at two different operations at the same time when needed.
All involved with Ubuntu Rock Drilling strive to live and work according to the “UBUNTU” way. Ubuntu is an ancient African word meaning 'humanity to others'. It also means 'I am what I am because of who we all are'
As our equipment is specialised, we make use of qualified and certified competent personnel. All personnel’s competencies are reviewed on a regular basis and refresher training done.
In charge of projects is our Managing Director who fulfils the role as Operations Manager. Louis, who is a qualified Geologist, has more than 20 years industry experience. He conducts regular site visits to monitor progress and compliance and is also responsible for logistic support and drilling quotations. URD is also a member of BWA.

Rotary Drilling:Ubuntu Rock Drilling drills boreholes varying from 89mm up to 508mm in diameter Boreholes drilled by URD includes: Production Water boreholes Monitoring boreholes · Rescue bay boreholes · De-watering boreholes (large diameter) ·Sampling boreholes
Symmetrics drilling: Symmetrics drilling of 165mm up to 216mm (Robit 219 System) Symmetrics drilling is used in Dolomites,unconsolidated material and to drill through cavities like underground mine workings and is especially effective where de-watering of the mine workings is required. Total de–watering is made possible by drilling to below the floor of the mine workings. Telescopic drilling: This method is used when drilling through Dolomites where dry cavities or cavities with little water is encountered, up to 500m depths and starting Diameter of up to 508mm.
RC (Reverse Circulation) Drilling This method is used to collect rock samples quickly and efficiently using a large rotary drill and air compressor. The high speed and lower cost per meter of RC drilling makes it ideal for obtaining mineral samples in the early phases of an exploration project.
Auger Drilling We also do auger drilling from 100 mm to 254 mm for unconsolidated materials (mud and clay) and re-sampling of coal dumps.

Core/Exploration drilling:Ubuntu Rock Drilling drills all of the following core diameters: ATX (32.51mm), BQ(36.4mm), NQ (47.63mm), TNW(60.81mm), HQ(63.81mm), PQ(84.96mm), T6-146(128.8mm) and ZWF(165mm) Ubuntu Rock Drilling also perform geotechnical drilling where loose or unconsolidated material is drilled to produce an in-situ or undisturbed soil sample. This is accomplished by using specialised core barrels like the NWD4 (54mm) or triple tube core barrel.
